Originally trained as an artist (B.A.-CSULB) James has extensive hands-on experience in a wide variety of media, including blown glass, ceramics, metal, jewelry, painting, and textiles. His professionalism is underlined by his completion of a four year Design program at UCLA, and recognition by the America Society of Interior Designers (ASID) who awarded him professional membership in 1994.

Drawing inspiration from his travels in Asia, South America, Africa, and Europe, Kwan’s approach to interior design also displays his ability to assist and awaken the personal vision and voice of his clients. Believing that creating, harmonies and exciting space to live in sustain focus on a life well-lived. Kwan works closely with his clients to revitalize, refocus and refresh both interior and exterior environments.

Kwan’s product designs include custom furniture, lighting, and accessories that address the individual client’s needs. In addition, his MK Collection, introduced in 1993 in collaboration with Leo Mondor, comprises drapery hardware made of hand blown glass. Kwan and Mondor have pursued their creative passion for interiors by expanding into garden design, as exterior spaces have become essential to contemporary daily living. All Kwan’s designs are distinguished by a novel approach to color, line, texture, and craftsmanship.
